Tis’ the season!

Aloha and Happy Holidays! Here in Hawaii, we also say mele kalikimaka, or Merry Christmas!

The weather already seems a tad bit cooler and Christmas decorations are out and up in full grandeur. Few things bring a smile to my face like seeing ornaments on trees and hearing Christmas music play in public areas. It really makes me feel festive.

Here are some pictures of the holiday decorations we have up.

Our Santa sand sculptures have been a hit at the Sheraton Waikiki, and Honolulu Chocolate Company always does a fantastic holiday spread no matter the holiday. Many customers ask to purchase the ornaments and decorations actually used in their storefront display (which they actually do sell in addition to fabulous chocolates).

The stately Christmas trees (yes, there are more than one, though they are not pictured here) are well-flocked in white and pink, fully resplendent of the grandeur of the Pink Palace of the Pacific. A toned-down but nonetheless luxurious Christmas tree rests inside Maui Divers Jewelry Luxury Collection.

I always wondered how they get the Christmas tree inside the actual hotel lobby at the Moana Surfrider. I mean, the front entrance to the hotel is only so large! Next year, I vow to try and witness how it is really done.

The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani and its Kalakaua storefront shops have also outdone themselves with nutcracker and other Christmas decor. In addition, choirs and other holiday entertainment is happening on an almost nightly basis!

The gingerbread fabrication at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani is also another sight to behold. Most people build gingerbread houses. This is a gingerbread CITY. A city, people! There’s a train, a circus, different mansions…

Tis’ the season, indeed.

More celebrity sightings at Collections of Waikiki…

Heh, I think I might just have to add to this list as they come in, but Paris Hilton was spotted at San Lorenzo Brazilian Bikinis at the Moana Surfrider the other day…

Japanese celebrity: IKKO!

We were very lucky for the Japanese cosmetics, fashion, and make-up specialist: IKKO to stop by. She checked out both Malie Organics and Accents, both stores who carry aromatherapy and beauty products made here in Hawaii.

IKKO-san, thank you for leaving us with an autograph, lots of pictures, and great memories! Please come visit Hawaii again~

New store: Malie Organics

I’m pretty excited to announce that Collections of Waikiki has a new store! The super duper popular luxury spa, aromatherapy, and fragrance brand “Malie Organics” just opened at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort on August 15, 2011.

Their full line of product will be carried here, from their Body Aromatherapy collection, including Pikake, Plumeria, Koke’e and other aromas, Home Aromatherapy collection, with Island Ambiance Reed Diffusers and candles, and the Anti-Aging collection, which incorporates Hawaiian coffee fruit into an organic elasticity cream and body polish. It’s the only store of its kind in all Oahu!

Founded in 2004 by Dana Roberts on her home island of Kauai, Mālie Organics places strict emphasis on natural and organic ingredients and processes, such as their use of pure Hawaiian Hydrosols – floral waters containing the essences of the plant gleaned through distillation, in many of their products.

Since then, Mālie Organics has grown to become a much sought-after brand, with distribution in over 300 luxury spas, hotels and beauty boutiques in Hawaii and across the country. A strong celebrity following in Japan has also helped bolster its international appeal.

The new Malie Organics location will offer custom, made-on-the-spot gift sets. Customers may simply provide their budget, and a tailored Malie Organics product gift set will be put together on the spot. Traditionally a popular request from those attending weddings, this service will now be expanded to include all customers, and sets may be made with as little as $30.

And in case you were wondering, yes, it does smell really nice inside the store.

Summer Stamp Event!

This truly was a wonderful summer in Hawaii. We had some amazing south shore waves, great weather, more than a few parades and lots and lots of happy guests. I don’t want it to end, but nothing stays the same forever, and I’m sure Fall and Winter will be equally entertaining.

Before we say so long to summer though, I wanted to let you know about one last event happening at Collections of Waikiki right now. To participate, you don’t even need to spend a single dollar.

I’ve attached these stamp cards to the cover of all our COLLECTIONS guides, found in the four Starwood Waikiki hotel rooms, in the public areas, and on the street stands of Waikiki. All you have to do is collect the 4 hotel-specific stamps and turn in the completed card to any Starwood hotel concierge for a free prize. That almost sounds too easy, doesn’t it?

Well, each hotel is host to a specific stamp, and one cannot complete the stamp card without first visiting all the stamp locations. But the stamps are easy to find. In fact, I’ll tell you where they are right now! They are at:

Sheraton Waikiki, Link@Sheraton COLLECTIONS teak rack
The Royal Hawaiian, Hula-la COLLECTIONS teak rack
Moana Surfrider, Beachhouse at the Moana COLLECTIONS teak rack
Princess Kaiulani, Front Desk COLLECTIONS teak rack

Once completed, turn in the card for your choice of a free chocolate caramel turtle from Honolulu Chocolate Company, a free milk-chocolate-dipped shortbread cookie from The Cookie Corner, or a sample cup of coffee from Peet’s Coffee & Tea.

If you turn in the complete card along with $150 or more proof of purchase receipts from Collections of Waikiki tenants, you’ll also get this limited edition Collections of Waikiki eco bag!

Event ends August 25, or until supplies last!

Collections of Waikiki x Mie

So I wanted give a behind-the scenes look at how a magazine ad comes together. I had the good fortune to work with a Japanese model named Mie, who is the former cover model for the popular Japanese fashion magazine: JJ. Our photo shoot with her took place all over the four hotel properties and in many of the stores. Suffice to say, the entire team had a great time and the end result–our first ever ad for Collections of Waikiki–was produced.

Of course, we had to showcase the property and product. One cannot focus solely on the model, no matter how beautiful or famous or amazingly nice she may be. Our day started off shooting some of the amazing food our tenants have to offer.

We also stopped by Abhasa Spa to get a shot with the therapist in their garden spa setting.

Several product shots were also taken, like these Hawaiian jewelry pieces from No.8 Jewelry.

Once the product shots were completed, we brought Mie out into select hotel public areas to get some shopping cuts. It was amazing to see the reactions of the Japanese guests. Mie is quite well-known in Japan and the requests for autographs and pictures with here were nothing short of numerous.

Here we are set up outside the elevators of The Royal Hawaiian. Can you see our photographer posted up against the wall?

Aside from shopping, we also did some select shots featuring key cultural lessons on property, as well as some of the fabulous dining options here!

Surf lessons on Waikiki beach!

Afternoon Tea at The Veranda!

All in all, we had a great time. The first ever Collections of Waikiki ad was first printed this past June. I’ll be looking to post more images of Mie and of our ad in the near future!

Until then, a hui hou!

Spa Khakara special for Sheraton Waikiki guests!

For the month of June, all Sheraton Waikiki guests may book a Lomi Lomi Massage (50 min) for $98. I think this is around 20% off the menu price of the treatment.

If you’ve never had a lomi lomi massage before, this is a traditional Hawaiian massage technique that uses long movements of the forearm, often moving from the ankle to shoulder in a single stroke. Renowned for being particularly relaxing and soothing, the lomi lomi treatment is a specialty of Spa Khakara.

I’ll be back in, oh, 50 minutes…

The event, held on June 5, is the preeminent international coffee competition and strives to promote excellence in coffee and barista standards. Each year, contestants representing over 50 nations compete as they craft espressos, cappucinos, and signature drinks.
